Orlando: Beyond the Parks

When you hear Orlando, your mind probably immediately thinks of Disney or Universal Studios. Did you know there was more to Orlando then theme parks though?

Even if you are planning to visit or stay at one of the theme parks, there is so much more to Orlando. I did not recognize this until I went to visit a friend for a weekend and truly got to experience Orlando. Here, we take a look at what’s beyond the parks.

Topgolf

With locations throughout the country, Topgolf has a location with a view on Universal Blvd. Grab you friends and family, rent a bay, and start hitting away. Just make sure you don’t ‘Happy Gilmore’ the ball, as that is frowned upon. Topgolf is perfect for all weather as the three levels are covered and heated. Even if golf isn’t your thing, sit back and relax with a nice cocktail at the bar.

The Wheel at Orlando’s Icon Park

Throw your fear of heights away at this location. The Wheel is 400ft high observation ferris wheel. If you want to see the views though, it will cost you. While still significantly cheaper than a theme park ticket, a ticket for The Wheel will set you back around $30, a little less if you purchase online.

Orlando Brewing

For the adults in your party looking to unwind, visit Orlando Brewing. Established in 2006, Orlando Brewing has been serving up brews and laughs ever since. According to Orlando Brewing’s website, their “beers became the first to be declared ‘Fresh from Florida’ and in 2006 we were certified as an organic brewery, making us the only U.S.D.A. certified organic brewery east of Colorado.”

Outdoor Adventures

For those of you who are the “outdoorsy” type, there is no shortage of trails and parks or water sports. Top parks in visit or stroll around include:

  • Harry P. Leu Gardens
  • Lake Eola Park

If you want to see wildlife, visit:

  • Exotic Animal Experience
  • Gatorland
  • Safari Wilderness Ranch

Water adventures include:

  • Paddleboarding
  • Dolphin tours
  • Everglades tours

Here are just a few ideas of what you can do in Orlando if you are tired of the theme parks. If you have been to The City Beautiful, what have you done outside of the parks?
